Michael Binder is a partner in the firm's Banking and Finance team and has more than 30 years of experience in advising financial services providers on regulatory matters as well as on cross-border and national corporate / M&A transactions.

He began his career with Binder Grösswang in 1980 and has been a Partner since 1986. Michael received his PhD from the University of Vienna (Dr. iur., sub auspiciis praesidentis) in 1978 and his postgraduate degree (LL.M., Fulbright Fellow) from Yale University Law School in 1982.

Michael is a member, among others, of the International Bar Association (IBA), the Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA), the Monterey Funds Club, the Association of Austrian Investment Companies (VÖIG) and the Association of Foreign Investment Companies in Austria (VAIÖ).

  • Advising the Austrian cooperative banking sector (Volksbanken) regarding the transfer of the function of the central institution to Volksbank Wien and a restructuring involving approx.. 40 bank mergers
  • Advising the Austrian cooperative banking sector (Volksbanken) regarding implementation, in Austria, of Art 3 CRD and formation of a group thereunder
  • Advising UniCredit Bank Austria regarding competitive disadvantages under Austrian supervisory regulation and conduct of infringement proceedings against the Republic of Austria
  • Advising HypoVereinsbank regarding the takeover of Bank Austria and the takeover by UniCredit
  • Advising the Republic of Austria regarding the privatisation of Creditanstalt-Bankverein
  • Advising Smurfit Kappa in connection with the acquisition of 3 plants from Mondi and the sale of 9 plants to Mondi
