Michael Kutschera

Michael Kutschera is a partner in its Corporate/M&A Team and has more than 30 years of experience in advising on cross-border transactions and complex joint ventures. Apart from this, Michael has extensive experience in international arbitration, primarily related to disputes on energy-related matters and complex international disputes, especially before US courts.

Michael has been ranked for more than 20 years as one of the leading Corporate/M&A lawyers and one of the most in demand arbitrators, recently by Chambers Global 2023 and Chambers Europe 2024. In the 2023 issue of the IFLR1000 Edition, he is named "expert consultant" and JUVE (Edition Austria 2023) ranks him among the leading names for Corporate/M&A in Austria.

Michael has been with Binder Grösswang since 1981 and became a partner there in 1989. He was acting as Managing Partner between 2012 and 2020. He received his doctoral degree from the University of Vienna (Dr. iur.) in 1979 and postgraduate degree (M.C.J., Fulbright Fellow) from New York University Law School in 1983. He worked as Foreign Associate at the Shearman & Sterling offices in New York and Paris. He is admitted to the bar in both, Austria and New York from 1985 to 1987.

Michael is a member of the Council of the Vienna Bar Association and a delegate to the Council of the Austrian Bar Association. He represents both Bar Associations in the Council of the International Bar Association and is the Chairman of their Constitution Committee as well as a member of their Banking Law Committee Advisory Board. He has been a member of the Supervisory Board of voestalpine AG for 15 years, is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Wiesenthal Autohandels AG and a member of the Swiss Arbitration Association (ASA).
