He started his career as a stagiaire with the European Commission in Brussels and has been with Binder Grösswang since 1998 where he became a partner in 2005. Johannes obtained a postgraduate degree (M.A.) from the University of Limerick / Ireland in 1997 and a doctorate degree (Dr. iur.) from the University of Innsbruck in 2000.

Johannes Barbist has been a lecturer at the Law Faculty of the University of Innsbruck since 2012 and is a regular speaker at conferences. Johannes regularly publishes on current topics in legal journals and books.
